Abstract EN

This study aims to investigate the relationship between social structure and the mechanisms of growth of a petty bourgeois class in the countryside, by conducting an anthropological study on the village of "Mansha’at Ibn El-Aas" in Sharkia Governorate.

The study attempts to explore the peculiarity of the village’s structure and its economic, social and cultural features that are reflected in the class formation and that leads to the growth of a petty bourgeois class of families who have aspirations and mechanisms to compete in economic activity and owning wealth.

Moreover, this class seeks investment and capital circulation in order to achieve an economic surplus.

An in-depth study has been conducted on seven cases of these families.

The study relies on the class analysis approaches of (Marx, Weber, and Bourdieu).

Among the most prominent results of the study is: that the social structure of the village is characterized by the multiplicity and diversity of economic activities between the traditional, such as agriculture and livestock fattening, and the modern ones, such as the poultry industry in modern incubation and hatchery factories managed with electrical appliances, as well as the trade of poultry and eggs on a large scale which in turn leads to buying land and setting up many commercial projects.

This has had an impact on the growth of a petty bourgeois class that has many characteristics, the most important of which are: it is a productive class that owns economic capital with various resources.

It is also characterized by rational economic thought in managing and investing capital to achieve an increase in profit, and they have a symbolic culture to consolidate economic wealth and strengthen their social position.
