Arts in different forms represent a form of expression to which humans had recourse to give voice to their profound interiority, ambitions and aspirations.

The caricature, as an artistic category, is perhaps one of the most important form of visual arts that were broadly popular amongst people, especially in the modern age.

Consequently, this form of art has been used to carry out various social and political functions in the Western society from the Renaissance to the contemporary era.

In this regard, this paper aspires to reveal some aspects of the historical account of the caricature in Western culture, Europe and America in particular, from the Renaissance to the present day by discussing the beginnings of this art's blossoming in Western culture, and the social and political functions it achieves in Western society in various historical eras.

It has been revealed that this art has been used as a significantly powerful tool to address many social, political and ideological issues in the ancient and modern Western society.
