The problem of identity between religious discourse and globalizationin the thought of Taha AbdurrahmaneThe question of identity is one of the basic issues facing modern man.

It becomes among the problems that need a reference to rely on.

In other words, today's human being needs to determine his/her identity, especially in the context of what is known as globalization that has eliminated all the peculiarities and characteristics, and thus implicated mankind in a problem of identity.

To get out from this deadlock (the identity crisis), many kinds of discourses emerged; despite the fact that they all had the same goal: to find a solution to this crisis, but their approaches differed from one speech to another.

Among these discourses is the religious discourse that defended religion and considered it as a path towards identification and as a way to put an end to the crisis of identity.

Many of the philosophers and thinkers adopted the religious discourse as a reference to identity.

Among them is Taha Abdurrahmane, who says that identity should be established on a religious basis.

He claims that there should be a distinction between Western identity and Islamic identity.

The first is based on a materialistic basis whereas the second is inspired from Islam and has a spiritual source.

In order to overcome this impasse, he thinks that we must return to religion and adhere to it; the Western civilization entered this crisis once religion was separated from the areas of human life and because of the appeals to secularism that can only be achieved by science and material, at the expense of the spiritual side of human beings.

This is clearly seen in the principles of Western modernity.

Man has lost his/her identity when s/he got away from his religion which represents the core of his/her identity.

Therefore, a Muslim should not follow the same path that the Western man took.
