Abstract EN

The folk sayings and proverbs are the most known intangible legacy used among people in the Algerian society.

Those sayings bear the sum of experiences and ideas and represent eloquent expressions.

Additionally, they play a role in constructing the social relationships carrying the values and the traditions across generations in a simple and concise language.

When one deeply analyzes those proverbs he would find out that they also talk about woman --with all her ages: a girl, a young, a woman, and an old-- in her all images, and in her place in the society: married, divorced, cultivated, spinster, sterile….

Those images can be negative and positive and they store the Algerian social imagination and its look at women.
