Major companies benefit from strategic alliances in reducing costs, gaining advantages, and accessing resources and competencies.

Less powerful companies aim to develop their resources and competencies, to build competitive advantages within the organization.

This may allow Algerian institutions to access these competencies at lower costs.

The study sheds light on this aspect in Algerian companies by studying the case of Sonatrach in pursuing strategic alliances with international companies to achieve its goals, which include the transfer of technological competencies.

To test the study hypotheses, a study methodology is used.

The study uses interview as a tool for data collection and analysis.

the strategic alliances achieve great gains for the company not by transferring technological competencies, but by providing appropriate conditions.

The success of the transfer process relies on two major factors: the commitment of the foreign party, the local party's readiness to learn and improve.
