Abstract EN

This research aims to show the influence of the classical epic of Homer (Ὅμηρος) on the Greek poet Yannis Ritsos (Γιάννης Ρίτσος) (1909-1990) by going through the poet Yannis Ritsos’s biography and analyzing his poems up to the year 1980, besides tackling some of the works that influenced his poetry.

The research also deals with the reasons behind Ritsos’s resorting to the old myth in his poetry, and the sources that he relied on.

Moreover, the research studies the methods that the poet adopts in recalling these myths to the future and how he blends the past with the present and the future.

The importance of this research lies in throwing light on Ritsos’s style in handling Homer’s Odysseus’s (Ὀδυσσεύς) return to his homeland Ithaca (Ιθάκη), through analyzing the poems where he alludes to Homer’s Odysseus and comparing Ritsos’s poems to the original work, Homer’s Odyssey (Ὀδύσσεια).
