The right to nationality is a fundamental human right.

It implies the right of each individual to acquire, change and retain a nationality.

Therefore, any abuse in the exercise of the power of the State to deprive individuals of their nationality which is an extension of its Sovereign right to determine its nationality issues through its domestic legislation.

It would deprive them of fundamental human rights, especially if as a result of this procedure they became stateless persons.

Thus, there are principles derived from international human rights law, that limit the power of the State to deprive individuals of their nationality.
