The Hanseatic League was able to operate in Northern Europe for centuries, as it was developed as a rare case in modern European history through the work of many different cities that are very far from each other within a single mercantile for a long time, until it reached the level of getting involved in the political affairs of the Baltic region.

The Hanseatic League was accepted as a single association or trade union in 1358.

This confederation structure derives its power entirely from the internal dynamics of Baltic cities.

It entered into conflict with Denmark, which was the most prominent enemy of the Hanseatic League.

Long-term conflicts led to the decline of the strength of both sides, and the Oresund Strait formed an early stage of such conflicts.
