Abstract EN

There is no doubt that the phenomenon of binary oppositions is one of the distinctive phenomena in Arabic literature, which was celebrated by the literary production in general, and the poetic product in particular.

It is no secret that this phenomenon requires a double effort as it is based on two approaches, or two axes; the first of which is the extrapolation of old poetic texts comprising this phenomenon as it is the topic of the study; the second is the process of documentation and analysis of the poetic text as required by thereading mechanisms and interpretation paths.

Among the most pivotal reasons in the study of this phenomenon is the multiplicity of cultures and components in the society that the poet lived in, and this in turn worked to make and form poetic structures that are very charming and sweet, especially since they are tinged with contradictions and oppositions Moreover, this paper consisted of an introduction, three sections and a conclusion.

The first sections dealt with significant binary oppositions in relation to issues of pleasure and pain, the life of pride and humiliation, and others.

The second sectionconcentrated on cognitive binary oppositions that are concerned with issues of life and death, old age and youth and so on.

Section three was about material binaries such as wealth and poverty, generosity and stinginess, etc.

The paper ended with a conclusion that summed up the findings of the study
