Abstract EN

This article examines the issue of European identity in the context of European integration.

It analyses the problem of European identity as confronted the threats of external identities, particularly those of minorities and immigrants, as well as regional or national identities.

Then, the study identifies the far right as a threat to the European integrative identity, as the latter has come to express the need to return to the national identities.

By analyzing the prevailing discourses, It concluded that these aforementioned threats affect the European identity that is one of the most important symbolic pillarssustaining the European integration process, so it recommends to give a larger coefficient for the identity-related variables in the studies dealing with the future of the European economic integration project.
