Abstract EN

The city of OuadZem has known a territorial change from a scattered rural area to an urban area.

This change is due to many factors.

The most important one is the French colonization which constructed the city of OuadZem as a military center.

The aim of the French colonizer was to monitor the territory under its authority in order to stabilize and settle the tribes that had threatened its existence in the area.

This was done through the creation of many facilities.

So soon the city of OuadZem has become a mining town due to the discovery of phosphate which led to the change of area through constructing roads, bridges, and railroads to facilitate the exploitation of mines.

Such factors contributed in making the area of OuadZeman attraction to rural workforce which fuelled the emigration from rural areas to Ouadzem.

As a result, the area of Ouadzem knew a complex change.
