The interior western regions of Algeria are characterized by their humid and rainy climate in Winter, dry and hot in summer, with a rise in temperature and fluctuation in the amounts of rain during the months of the year, witch lead to sudden and torrential rains in a short period of time that work to expel the Banks of the valley of the feeding water basins for dams, significant amounts of mud and silt are washed away and deposited in the bottoms of exploited dams, the problem of blockage in the cannels of dams that distribute irrigation water towards agricultural arias.

This article aims to analyse the problem of loosening the Ghrib dam, and its repercussions on irrigated perimeter in the vicinity of the high Cheliff, and to identify the factors leading to this phenomenon.

with the mention of ways to reduce this problem, with threatens the surface water bottled in the exploited Ghrib dam, especially the water available for irrigation.
