The transformations in the Moroccan space led to the development of the phenomenon of urbanization in the mountainous areas, as the development of the phenomenon of urbanization in morocco was linked to the colonial intervention that affected the space structures, as well as with state interventions and the increasing openness of mountain areas and the development and dynamism of economic activities.

if the plain and coastal areas have been characterized by an accelerating dynamism at the level of urbanization, then the mountain areas have, to the present day, recorded a delay in the growth of the urbanization phenomenon and formed a transit area due to their marginalization, and the absence of appropriate natural and economic conditions.

this article aims to analyze the problem of urbanization in mountain areas by diagnosing their situation and identifying the factors that contributed to the development of urbanization, identifying its characteristics, highlighting its challenges, factors of delay, and its position in the policy of land-planning the national territory and exploring its horizons.
