Abstract EN
A biological experiment was conducted in the plastic house of the Department of soil Science and Water Resources – College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad–Jadiriya in spring season 2018 To study the role of some organic and mineral substances in reducing the accumulation of some heavy elements in Zea mays L.
using two types of calcareous soils with different textures, the first was silty clay loam (SiCL) and the second was loam (L), 20 kg soil in plastic pots.
The soil was treated with two types of organic matter: palm trunks (M1) and active charcoal (M2) and two mineral materials: phosphate rock (M3) and Bentonite (M4).
Mixed with soil by 5% weight/weight (individually), after sieving with a sieve diameter of its holes 4 mm, 5 seeds of Corn was planted for each pot, reduced to three plants per pot after a week of germination.
The results showed that the different processing materials had a significant effect in reducing the concentrations of heavy elements under study in the plant.
.
The order of materials effect was as follow: M2 > M3 > M1 > M4Soil texture also significantly affected the concentrations of heavy elements (Pb, Zn, Ni and Cd) in the plant, SiCL gave the lowest value of element concentrations compared to soil L.
The addition of processing materials (M) significantly affected the concentrations of the orbed elements, control treatment (M0) gave the lowest values for all elements.
While the treatments (M2 and M3) gave the highest values of lead and cadmium adsorption elements, while treatment (M4) gave the highest values for both zinc and nickel, Soil texture (T) had a significant effect on the values of the concentrations of the elements orbed by the Zea mays L.
.
(T1) gave the least amount of orption and all elements compared to soil texture (T2).
The results showed that the addition of the processing materials for the soil to a significant increase in both plant height and dry weight.
Thus, the results gave an ascending order as follows: M0 < M4 < M1 < M3 < M2Soil texture significantly affected plant height and dry weight values, (SiCL) gave the highest values, while (L) gave the lowest values for the studied growth indicators.
