Abstract EN

Through this research, we are trying to shed light on a very important phenomenon in Algerian society: drug trafficking and drug addiction.

On the basis of statistics issued by the National Office for Drug Control and Drug Addiction of the Algerian Ministry of Justice, this institution publishes data on the above-mentioned phenomenon in the form of annual reports on the annual proceeds of seizures of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

by The three institutions involved in combating drug trafficking are the National Gendarmerie and the Directorate-General of National Security and Customs.

Reliance on these sources gives us a clear picture of the scale of the phenomenon at the national level, as well as the number of cases registered, the number of cases dismissed relating to possession, consumption and smuggling, and the number of persons involved during each year.

These reports also provide us with an indication of the outcome of the activity in the recruitment of addicts and how they are distributed according to family situation, gender and occupational situation.

The results from the analysis of the statistics of the National Office for Drug Control indicate that the amounts seized during the study period have increased and that the number of detainees has increased.

The results also indicate that those involved in trafficking, possession, consumption and smuggling cases are youth, male sex and single persons.
