Abstract EN

Aging of semantic memory is a manifestation of cognitive aging.

Cognitive aging is what affects mental functions during the last stage of human development (aging), including memory.

However, the impact or effect of aging on this memory varies according to its types.

Both episodic memory and working memory are more likely to be aging than the more semantic memory that is resistant to this factor.

However, the latter also disintegrates in the case of pathological aging.

It is therefore important to look at how aging (whether normal or pathological) affects stored semantic information, which inevitably helps, when diagnosed this type of memory, to distinguish between normal and pathological cognitive aging.

So how is semantic memory in normal as well as pathological cognitive aging ? How its different levels are affected (the level of lexical organization, the level of semantic information) ? What are the factors affecting it when it reaches this stage ? Finally, how does the diagnosis of semantic memory in the elderly contribute to the detection of some cognitive aging diseases ? These are the questions that we seek to answer through this theoretical article that mainly aims to present the most important information on how both normal and pathological aging affect semantic memory, based on the most important psycho-cognitive research that has dealt with the subject, in order to contribute to enriching the field of Arabic research.
