As is the case near most of the megalithic and para-megalithic necropolises distributed around the city of cirta, the Numidian city of Tirkkabin is perched on a naturally fortified plateau which was reinforced by an effective defensive system in the form of a double wall which protects the inhabitants from any intrusion, with a single door allowing entry and exit of the city and controlled by a watchtower.

The inhabitants of this city were buried in two cemeteries, the soil of which provided heterogeneous construction materials relating to the geological formation, its rocks or other components dictated to the builders the type of tomb to be constructed, whether it was tumulus or bazinas.
