Abstract EN

The study used the case study method in collecting data and determining evaluation criteria in order to know the strengths and weaknesses and trying to provide solutions to them.

Central Library (study sample).

The study reached a set of results, the most important of which are: 1) The weakness of the application of (RDA) rules in the central library at Al-Mustansiriya University, because it is limited to cataloging paper books only and in Arabic, Kurdish, English and French languages, with a number of (1776) out of the total number (231364).2) The lack of availability of the number of specialized training courses according to the use of (RDA) rules, where the number of (13) training courses attended by catalogers in the (KOHA) system unit of the Division of Automated Systems in the Central Library at Al-Mustansiriya University.

The study also came up with several recommendations, the most important of which are: 1) The necessity of activating the application of (RDA) rules in all sections of the central library (the study sample), to include cataloging all its collections of information sources, and making the search service available to the beneficiaries by providing them with the bibliographic records they need, given that these rules are applied to the (KOHA) system, which is Turn free and open source.2) Expanding the work by increasing the number of academically qualified graduates of the Information and Libraries Department, and based on the rules of modern cataloging (RDA), to catalog and complete the largest number of the library collection, as it is constantly increasing due to exchanges, purchases and gifts.
