Abstract EN

The presupposition is one of the linguistic phenomena on which pragmatics depends to study discourse.

It relies on the background knowledge shared between the interlocutors, and on which they depend to achieve social communication.

By reference to the Diwan of Matar Lafitat 7, this study is meant to show the importance of presupposition in successful poetic communication between the poet and his readers.

This takes place as his poetry is classified within political poetry that aims to reject oppression, and calls for freedom.

It is thanks to his intentionality-based poetry as well as his language competence that the poet assumes leadership
