Meanings in language are mysterious.

For this reason, we cannot say that language can be interpreted only in one way.

For instance, this is the case with al-Ḥurūf .

They are characterized by polysemy and the dividing line between their different meanings is not always clear, especially those indicating space wherein meaning is straightforward in some cases and broad in others.

Ancient scholars include this under categories of figurative speech, semantic multiplicity, polysemy, and metaphor of al-harf.

Therefore, learners face challenges in learning Arabic especially for whom it is a foreign language.

We cannot determine fixed meanings for Ḥurūf al-Jarr, for ambiguity is part of language’s characteristics.

So, the meanings of Ḥurūf al-Jarr depend on different contexts defined by the speaker.

Based on this, we submit this research paper including the central meanings and comprehensive meanings of Ḥurūf al-Jarr in accordance with spatial images, we extensively focus on harf al-Jarr “ 'lā” (central meaning and comprehensive meanings).

Then, we present elements of expressing spatial aspects of Ḥurūf al-Jarr related to space.
