Adjel Adjoul, a companion to Mostapha Ben Boulaid, interrupted his route as a veteran for the national cause, by giving himself up to the French military authorities in the autumn of 1956.
In the perspective of a new historical approach of the national liberation war, the paradoxical path taken by Adjel Adjoul is a pretext to orientate thought on the build up of political engagement and its opposite.
In other words, the theme of the” making of heroes “which was the matrix of traditional national history can only be enriched by analyses of anti heroes.
In fact, the example of Adjel Adjoul outlines the two contradictory profiles of heroes and anti heroes at the same time.
His story, with the ambiguity it emphasises, enables us to go beyond the limits of classical monograph, and to understand such political procedures written in a given social dynamic.

Adjel Adjoul (1922,1993), compagnon de Mostefa de Ben Boulaïd, a interrompu son parcours de combattant de la cause nationale, en se rendant aux autorités militaires françaises, à l’automne 1956.
Dans une perspective de renouvellement des approches de l’histoire de la guerre de libération nationale, le parcours paradoxal de Adjel Adjoul est un prétexte pour orienter la réflexion sur la construction de l’engagement politique et de son contraire.
Autrement dit, la thématique de la « fabrique des héros » qui est la matrice de l’histoire nationale traditionnelle ne peut que s’enrichir de l’analyse des contre,modèles.
En effet, le cas de Adjel Adjoul recoupe les deux profils contradictoires de héros et contre,héros à la fois.
Son histoire, avec ce qu’elle implique d’ambiguïtés, permet de dépasser les limites de la monographie classique et d’explorer les perspectives offertes par la micro,histoire, pour rendre compte de tels processus politiques inscrits dans une dynamique sociale donnée.
