Despite the late emergence of insurance in the field of space activities, it has witnessed in recent years a significant increase in the insurance market, especially when gradually separated from the sub-categories of marine and air insurance.

Insurance in this area has seen its first appearance as “a Firstparty insurance” to guaranty the risk faced by the satellites before launch.

This first-party insurance was categorized under the marine insurance market.

The first full-fledged space insurance system emerged only after it broke away from the air insurance market in 1972 when Western Union Company was involved in the insurance policy for the launching of the Westar 1 and 2 satellites, while the insurance of objects in outer space was delayed until the mid-1980s .

Hence, the importance of analyzing the leading legislative models that define the system of insurance coverage to cover the risks of space activity.

Foremost among these are the American law and some European models such as French or Dutch legislation, the detection of shortcomings, and the assessment of ways to benefit from them, in addition to processing solutions hoped to be recognized in our Arab legislation.
