The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai announced the trial operation of the autonomous air taxi at the beginning of 2017, but it was not officially operated until all the safety and security requirements related to the operation of this type of vehicles are met.

This study seeks to explore the legal nature of the Dubai Flying Taxi, which was launched by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, to highlight the civil liability that the flying taxi may inflict on passengers, and to determine who is the person responsible for the damage caused by the flying taxi to passengers, especially in the absence of An explicit text clarifying the rules applicable to domestic air transport operations.

The study will accordingly be concerned with explaining the framework of liability in case of damage to others, whether in the air or on the surface of the ground.

It will indicate whether responsibility falls on the RTA, in its capacity as the authority of the public authority, or on the American (JDA) company, as the flying taxi operator and responsible for the pilot operating the taxi and leading the trip, based on the liability of the follower for the business of his subordinates.

And if it becomes clear that the underlying cause of the occurrence of damage to others is a defect in the structure of the flying taxi, resulting from a manufacturing problem, we will see whether the manufacturer can be held responsible for these consequential damages, given its obligation to guarantee the safety of the flying taxi.
