Abstract EN

This research deals with an important discussion of a scientific issue that is very important owing to its connection with the science of interpretation “Tafseer”.

It is the science of “occasions”, which was/is the subject of interest of senior exegetes (the great scholars of Tafseer) in ancient and modern times due its being an important source of interpretation and revelation of miraculousness (I’jaz).

But Shawkani rejects this science and criticizes those who are interested in it, seeing it is as an outrageous preciosity that harms the Qur’an and does not benefit it.

Despite this, Shawkani did not maintain his position in practice.

He rather mentioned a number of occasions within the verses in his interpretation.

In this research, I presented, studied, criticized and refuted all the suspicions mentioned by Shawkani regarding the science of occasions.

I conducted this work using a tenable scientific approach and strong evidence, God willing, in response to a strong need to address those suspicions.

The study includes two sections: the first section discusses the science of “occasions”, its definition, origin and history, as well as the arguments presented by Shawkani for rejecting it.

The second section includes the refutation of Shawkani’s arguments in denying the science of occasions.

This study ended up in invalidating Shawkani’s claims in rejecting the science of occasions, whenever there is a good connection between the verses and the occasion, far from mannerism and arbitrariness.
