Abstract EN

This research is focused on the correction of understanding of some qur’anic verses whose meanings may be related to the issue of determinism and freewill, as they include negative attributes to the human beings which often affect his behavior in response to divine instructions.

It is based on the extrapolation of the verses where the word ‘man’ is associated with negative attributes, the close study of the lexical meaning of those verses, and the presentation of the opinions of interpreters with analysis and criticism.

The research distinguishes between two kinds of human traits: innate negative traits, which were instilled in the human being for a purpose.

These traits do not affect his destiny, but are rather meant to be a means for ascension and purification of the soul.

Acquired negative traits, on the other hand, are a result of the submission of the human being to his desires and his negligence of controlling them.

Finally, the study emphasizes - through several qur’anic verses - that the negative traits can be converted to positive traits through learning and self-improvement
