In this article, the second of two articles on this topic, the authors present a definition of folk cooking , then proceed to discuss the social functions of food, in terms of the process of preperation, who is invited to cat , the seating order around the table, the kindd of food materials used, and the relation of all these to identity Riligious symbols, and symlols of social stratification in food are also discussed.

Other aspects of material culture such as wooden, stone, metal , pottery, straw, leather, and glass tools and utensils, especially those in use among Palestinians, are dealt with in the article.

Ways of making and decorating such material culture items are described.
