Abstract EN

Michael Naima is a great Arab thinker, one of the generations that led the intellectual, literary and critical renaissance, which has witnessed great changes in all directions and approaches.

He has played a leading role in enriching the Arab critical field through his prose essays (both theoretically and practically), which were markedly improved by the development of his critical sense, his artistic taste, and his deep philosophy rooted in him as he was influenced by the world thought, and has succeeded in combining the heritage of the East and the West.

In such respect, the current study aims at revealing the features of such intellectual development and maturity, and monitoring the impact of Western thought on the impressions of the writer and his critical views.

The significance of this research lies in that it deals with a new subject that is still under study, not only in the field of Arab criticism, but also in the field of Western criticism.

It also tackles the aspects of two-way influence.

In conformity with the nature of this study, the research considered the adoption of mechanisms of the descriptive approach, which focuses on studying the phenomenon temporally and spatially, and clarifying its aspects through the stages of its development and its influence by various factors.

The research concludes that such early readiness or critical sense of Michael Naima and his artistic maturity have been arisen due to two factors: First: an internal factor represented in his intellectual awakening, his sharp memory, his violent tendency to succeed, as well as his sense of prominence and privilege among others.

Second: the wonderful world, which surprised him in the treasures of Russian literature, which impressed him and by which he previously knew nothing; from which he was taught a lot and felt himself another person.
