English Abstract

This article treats the hypothesis that there was close correlation between the emergence and development stages of two movements - The Palestinian National Movement and the Palestinian Folklore Movement, and that such correlation is not coincidental but inherent to the nature of the relationship between nationalist and folklore movements everywhere since the end of the Feudal system and the emergence of National liberation movements in 17th.

The article reviews several examples ^ which show this rule to be particularly true among peoples who- similar to Palestinians - suffered from occupation, oppression and severe threats to their national identities.

The author divides each of the two movemnts into five stages starting around - 1850.

The stages for both movemnts coincide temporally, almost completely.

The paper elaborates the main features of each stage in both movements, and discusses The logic behind the similarities and the temporal coincidence between the stages in the two movements.
