The current research deals with the study (the effect of light and shadow and their representations on European photography) and its role in art practice for art students in general, planning material and colors in particular, and what contributes to revealing the aesthetic expressive values of dramatic scenes in European photography through the works of artists and the added experience And knowledge for art students, its followers and connoisseurs.

The current research contains four chapters: The first chapter included a presentation of the research problem, and the research problem was defined by the question: What is the effect of light and shadow and their representations on European photography? As well as presenting the importance of research and the need for it.

As for the aim of the study, it lies in: Knowing the effect of light and shadow and their representations in European photography, as well as the limits of research, and defining terms.

The second chapter included: the theoretical framework, which contained two topics.

The first topic included a study on (artistic light and shadow), while the second study studied (the aesthetic expressive value).

As for the third chapter, it included the research community, which included (30) artworks, and the research sample that was selected in the systematic random way, which amounted to (3) artworks, for each of the Renaissance, the modern era, and postmodernism, and the research methodology based on the descriptive approach.
