The tourism sector is experiencing growth at the international level in terms of the development of the number of tourists and tourism revenues, and as a result of the importance of tourism in the economies of countries, it has received attention with the aim of its development and development to move the wheel of their economies, and from here the current study focused on the extent of the Libyan state’s interest in this vital sector to revive the development movement of the national economy.

The study aimed to measure international tourism in Libya from two fixed indicators, namely the number of international tourists coming to Libya and the tourism revenues achieved from behind that during the study period.

Thus, the problem of the study revolves around the position of the tourism sector in the national economy in terms of its contribution to sustainable development through the percentage of its contribution In exports and its role in the trade balance, and the extent of its contribution to employing the workforce to solve the unemployment problem, this study has relied on the descriptive and analytical approach that fits with the nature of the subject, while the study population was the case of Libya, and the study proved the following results: - The poor performance of the tourism sector in the Libyan state is due to the weak investment in this sector.

- The lack of an appropriate climate to encourage tourism investment during the past decades, especially the volatile political climate.

- The influx of tourists coming to Libya decreased during the period 2000-2011, with an annual average of 503 thousand tourists.

- Weak tourism revenues in Libya, which amounted to 1,928 million dollars during the period 2000-2011, at an annual average of 161 million dollars annually in twelve years, which is very low if compared to the revenues achieved by tourism in some neighboring countries.

- The Libyan tourism balance deficit during the period 2007-2011, totaling -7.965 billion dollars), and an average (-1.593 billion dollars) annually during the period.

- The weak contribution of the tourism sector in supporting the national economy in terms of job and employment opportunities and in creating a developmental movement for the Libyan economy in general.
