Abstract EN
After their defeat in the Battle of Kdse Dag (a mountain near Erzincan) iu 1243 A.D./641 H.
; the Seljuks began to owe allegiance to the Mongols and gradually became their vassals in Asia Minor.
However, they maintained their power in western and southern parts of Asia Minor.
In order to drive the Mongols out of his country, the Seljuk Sultan established secret relations with the Mamluks of Syria and Egypt.
Realizing the threat of such an alliance, the Mongols dealt major blows to the Seljuk sultans and emirs.
The paper is divided into four sections.
Section one reviews the political situation in Asia Minor with special reference to the Mameluk State in Egypt.
Section two deals with the relations between the Seljuks and Mameluks and their exchange of messengers.
Section three focuses on these relation during the reign of Kaykhusraw III (1266-1283 A.D7 664-682 H.) who came to power as a child and his vizier Mu'een Addin Sulayman, Perwana was the real ruler of the state.
Perwana succeeded in winning the Mongols' confidence.
He also maintained relations with the Mamluks.
Section four deals with the military campaign launched by the Mamluks against the Mongols in Asia Minor in 1276 A.DJ675 H.
The Mongols were defeated in the battle of Al-Bustan, but they retaliated by massacring thousands of people in Anatolia including their agent Perwana.
As a result, the power of the Seljuks disintegrated and their political role in Asia Minor came to an end.
In writing the paper, the researcher consulted many Arabic and Persian sources written by historians who had been witnesses or contemporary with the events.
He also used many Arabic, EnglisH and Turkish references dealing with the topic of the paper.
