Abstract EN

The problem of electricity supply in the province of Dohuk is an existing problem since the uprising in 1991 in various sectors and fields.

Our research focuses on household consumption of electricity which is intended to estimate the function of domestic demand for electricity in the city of Dohuk in 2008.

Depending on the use of standard quantitative analysis through the study of the relationships of variables based, which is consumption (home electricity/ kW) and the independent variables, which were represented by (geographic region, the number of family members, monthly income, the number of electrical appliances, the portion of the income for generator).

It turns out that the first three variables, although important, but they were not of a significant effect on the domestic demand for electricity while the number of electrical appliances and the portion of the income of individuals allocated for the consumption of electricity to local generators had a significant effect in demand for electricity.

Also and the value of coefficient of determination (R2) was low and equals to (24%) to limit the demand for what is available from the local generators of electricity, and the government's electricity supply is low and in limited quantities, to solve this problem requires the construction of new power plants for electric power more in line with the environmental conditions as well as reliance on renewable sources such as solar and wind powers and take advantage of the water falls that are available in the region.
