This study aimed to monitor the problems of the preparatory year management at the university of Jeddah (the path of humanities) according to the availability of the foundational dimensions (philosophy, complementarity, lifelong learning, effective communication, compatibility with university life, the overall university environment, continuous improvement) and work to define solutions to address them the researcher used the qualitative approach to access in-depth data by conducting semi-structured interviews with two groups of students, one of them for the preparatory year students-the path of humanities-and they numbered (75) students, and the other group of students who completed their requirements recently reached (35) students, as well.
in view of the researcher's views and his coexistence with the preparatory year course in the university of Jeddah, emerging in the first semester of the academic year 1439/1440 ah.
the study also identified solutions to those problems, including the necessity to change the philosophy of the preparatory year from being based on the idea of student screening to an idea based on building the student's integrated personality, as the study showed a number of proposals; including canceling the calculation of the cumulative average in the preparatory year and converting the calendar therein to passing or not passing, and specifying specializations is a precursor to the course of the preparatory year.
