The research aimed to build a program based on linguistic games in developing readiness for reading and writing skills for first-grade students.

To achieve the previous goal, the researcher prepared a list of the reading and writing skills necessary for first-grade students.

The researcher also prepared a test of the skills of readiness for reading and writing for first-grade students, and the researcher tested the psychometric properties of that test, then proceeded to build a program based on linguistic games to develop readiness for reading and writing skills for first-grade primary students, and the study program was applied to a group of primary school students in one of the schools (Makkah Al-Mukarramah), where the researcher used experimental design with two experimental and control groups.

The results of the study revealed the building of a list of the skills for reading and writing necessary for first-grade students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it consisted of readiness for reading skills: visual distinction, auditory distinction, relationship awareness, expression and interpretation, attention and remembrance, and manual visual integration, while readiness for writing skills included the following: visual perception, remembering, motor visual integration, and the formation of writing symbols, and the study revealed also the effectiveness of the study program in developing reading and writing skills for first-grade primary students.

The study recommended the need to take advantage of the program based on language games in the development of readiness for reading and writing in the primary stage, and to train student teachers specialized in the Arabic language on how to develop reading and writing readiness skills for primary school pupils.
