This study aims to identify the reality of the development of public school leaders' professional competencies in Riyadh, from their point of view.
To achieve this objective, a sample, of 151 male and female school leaders, was selected.
The survey descriptive approach was used.
The researcher applied a questionnaire of 38 statements that are distributed to two dimensions.
The study concluded the following: The study sample agree, on the axis of "developing the professional competencies of public secondary school leaders in Riyadh, from their point of view", came with a middle degree for the competency of problem analysis, decision making, competencies of educational evaluation, and competencies of financial management.
The study sample agree on planning competency, leadership competency, education, learning competency, and communication and human relation competency came with a high degree.
Results also concluded that the study sample agree on "constraints facing developing the competencies public secondary school leaders in Riyadh, from their point of view", came with a "middle" degree.
The constraint, stating that "Ministry of education has no strategic plan for the development of school leaders' competencies", came first, with a high agree degree.
The constraint, stating that "including school leaders in training programs not satisfying their actual needs", came second with a high agree degree.
The study concluded that there are no significant differences within the study sample responses with respect to the academic qualification and number of years of experience.
