Abstract EN

Jeddah port was considered as an important economical and architectural landmark.

King Abdulaziz took great care to improve and expand the port, so that it could meet the demands of accommodating growing number of ships.

Ships were coming from all parts of the world for both trade and transferring pilgrims Therefore, the current research aims at documenting the historical events that the port had witnessed and influenced its development, presenting an architectural description of the remaining buildings and mentioning the port's improvements and developments which had been issued by king Abdulaziz.

The study is divided into two main parts: The first session describes the improvements and developments of the port under king Abdulaziz rule, the second part is allotted to architecturally describe the remaining buildings of the port.

Those two sections are preceded by a preface which describes Jeddah port before the time of king Abdulaziz's rule.

Finally, the research ends with a conclusion that mentions the most important results and some recommendation.

The Research Key Words The Time of King Abdulaziz's Rule: Historically, the time of King Abdulaziz's rule extends from the time when he unified its regions under the name of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1351 AH/1932 till his death in 1373/1953.

However, in this paper, the time of King Abdulaziz's rule goes further back in time to the year 1344/ 1925 when King Abdulaziz managed to enter Jeddah and to submit it to his rule till his death .

The Punt Building : The word Punt comes originally from the Latin word ponton-, ponto which means the port.

In the current paper, Alpunt was the building that pilgrims visitors and goods first entered when they came to Jeddah .

The Iskelah: It is the marina which connects the big ships to the port.

The Quarantine Building: It is the building where the new comers from pilgrimages or visitors were taken to be medically checked before allowing them to enter the city.
