Abstract EN

This research deals with the blue tourism in Sudan-which refers to sustainable marine and coastal recreational activities-and its current status, opportunities and challenges.

the research is based on the qualitative descriptive methodology.

the main concepts and chosen recent literature on the subject was explained, followed by analyzing the international tourism trends and expenditure in Sudan during the last decades and the tourism demand in the red sea state the main geographical features were demonstrated as bases for the physical, cultural attractions also the contemporary tourism infrastructure, facilities, ongoing recreational activities.

the research explained the specific importance of blue tourism for the development as the best growth pole sector in the process of socio-economic transformation or achieving the goals of 2030 vision and geopolitical purposes by modifying the tortured spatial organization through the expected emerging new growth centers, and decreasing port Sudan's extreme dominance.

blue tourism is facing many obstacles, as the existence of sectorial planning system, seasonality, logistic and financial shortages enforced by a long list of environmental, political and social risks.

the main results are : although the state is the poorest in the country, the least populated, with low urbanity, severe shortages in water resources and food security ; it failed in exploiting its rich resources, that there is no real international tourism as the majority of demand is persuaded by illegally anchored foreign ships.

the only foreseen complementarity tool is the blue economy, specifically blue tourism, planned within a comprehensive regional vision in addition to controlling the territorial waters.
