Abstract EN

This research entitled: The Year of the Elephant, a historical study about its motives, causes, history and consequences.

This study sheds light on the motives and reasons that led Abraha to lead this campaign.

The study also aims to respond to the Orientalists who attributed the Marigan inscription to the Abraha campaign on Makkah The study also aimed to discuss the history of the campaign and the confrontation of the tribes of Quraysh, Khath’am, Hazail, and Kananah to it.

The study concluded with several findings, the most important of which is that the Abraha campaign may have political and economic goals, but it is not devoid of religious motives.

All resources inspected by the researcher mentioned that the campaign had religious motive and did not mention the orientalists ’view that the campaign was not heading to Makkah, but rather it was heading north The campaign mentioned in the Marigan inscription preceded the year of the elephant by eighteen years and was probably the motivation that made Abraha conquer Makkah.
