The unity in content and spirit of Arabic oral folkculture across the whole Arab world and o\er the long history of the Arab period make* imperative that students of Arabic folk culture should use a historically oriented approach .

This historical a pproach to Arabic culture and civilization was indeed the approach used b> Ibn-Khaldun as well as man> other Arab historians.
