Abstract EN

During the 19th century, the political power of the Tunisian country engaged in a path of modernization, in a close relationship with the urgent requirements of the economy, which was linked to external proofs (The High Door and Europe), and internal ones that went to the local given.

One of the characteristics of this relationship is that it establishes a path of modernization in parallel with the construction of a new path to the formation of local wealth focused on the interest of internal resources.

The Authority has therefore employed a range of mechanisms in the context of extending influence and control over the territory for the provision and sustainability of this wealth, taken in the name of the public interest as a legal link between Peripherals and the Centre, one of the strongest links between which social and economic interactions have been formulated.

This article, based on an analysis of an important collection of archival documents in the Tunisian National Archives, contributes to the development of a set of elements to read the path of modernization and the building of the Tunisian state in the modern period and its history from an economic and social approach.
