Abstract EN

The study is about the importance of sovereign bonds (sukuk), and their substantial role in balancing the budget deficit in Indonesia, as the latter, for many years, had struggled against an exacerbated budget deficit caused by a rising external debt and debt services.

This came as a result of the sharp decline in Indonesian rupiah exchange rates against the US dollar.

Indonesia is deemed as one of the most prominent countries that balance budget and infrastructure deficits by relying on sovereign bonds.

Such bonds gained both local and international popularity, and the Indonesian government was also able to achieve its goals of enhancing economic development and improving exchange rates.

Furthermore, Islamic bonds played an important role in financing projects that were severely damaged by Covid-19.
