Abstract AR

The study aimed at identifying competencies of schools' principals in the Sultanate of Oman through five demographic variables (gender, qualification, educational stage, number of students and experience).

A questionnaire consists of 79 itemswith six dimensions (policies and regulations, personal competencies, planning, and implementation, education and qualification, change management and resource management).

Upon verification of its validity and reliability, the questionnaire has been applied on a sample size of 281 schools' principals (115 male and 166 female).

The data obtained were analyzed using Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression.

Results showed high level of competency amongst the schools' principals in Oman in general, with the gender being the best demographic variable in predicting competencies of schools' principals followed by experience and then the number of students.

Based on the study results, a number of recommendations and suggestions were provided.
