Abstract EN

Bejaia formed a strategic and important centre in the mideteranian atmosphere because of its coastal location.

Its port, since its it has been built in 1067, ensured for it vitality and activity and integration in that atmosphere widely.

It derived its power firstly from the sea, which was a source for its prosperity, and from its strategic position.

Second, from the will of its governors to make it one of the biggest cities in the Islamic Maghreb despite the local opposition and the powers of the Almirinide and Zianide that tried widely to limit its expansion in some historical periods.

Some of the many Arabic and archival sources allowed us to know the volume of its navigational activity.

The documentary materials that were in the archival centres around the world shaped a rich source for us for many ambiguous cases especially the economic ones that helped us to know the early and fruitful openness of Bejaia on the Mediterranean sea.

Based on this we are going to publish a document from the archives of the kingdom of Aragon that ensures the volume of the exchanges between Mallorca and Bejaia.
