Abstract EN

The roots of the Moroccan European relations have been extended for long time, torn between stability and instability which was manipulated by different contexts and circumstances.

In the same vein, when Al-ALAWIYIN took the reign, they went through the same destiny.

However, these relations have changed their path, especially in Moulay Ismail era (1727 AD-1672), who was the responsible for the maintenance of the center of Morocco and the realization of its interests in the context of a geographical area imprinted with transformation and dynamism.

Therefore, his foreign policy with the European world was based on two issues: the issue of prisoners and trade cooperation, following the method of prudence and caution, which imposed the use of competent personalities with sophistication, civility and good management; he selected his assistants from the most famous families, traders and experienced people in dealing with Europeans.

These are the qualities found in the Jewish elite, which attracted the MAÏMORAN family from Meknes who are experienced in commercial activities, especially with the state of Netherlands.

With this, personalities with the MAÏMORAN family have contributed to the strengthening of Morocco's external standing/ position.
