In this article, we attempted to answer two key questions: What are the reasons and circumstances surrounding the signing of the French protectorate treaty on Morocco? And what is the official position on the French protectorate against Morocco? We have tried to answer these two questions, which are the problematic of this subject, relying on a range of sources and references.

We divided the subject into two axes: The first dealt with the economic, political and social conditions experienced by Morocco before the imposition of protectorate, that was a diffl difficult situations, the most prominent of which was the economic collapse, social revolutions and French pressures.

The second axis dealt with what we might call the results of the first axis, namely the signing of the protectorate treaty, the reactions of the Moroccans and the position of the Sultan.
