The commercial relationship between the weekly markets (souks) and Moroccan cities was economic open one.

There was a network of roads money cities and harbors.

These roads went along the rivers and the biggest weekly markets in order to get provided with the necessary goods.

So, they played an important economic, social and political roles.

That’s why The French protectorate was negatively concerned with this dynamic of the Moroccan weekly souks.

Then, it decided to drain the resources of the Moroccan tribes and invade these souks with imported goods and took a, a number of measures to gain control on these souks so as to become under control and achieve the colonialism purposes.
