Abstract EN

The issue of reform during the second half of the nineteenth century was considered a matter of urgency in the Maghreb region.

In fact, the awareness of the imbalance between us and the other (European) led to numerous reactions over the colonization of the region.

In an attempt to avoid the perpetuation of colonialism and the obliterating of people's local identity, many reform experiences has hastened the process of initiating and rectifying the government structure systems; such as, military, economy, managements of education, and so on and so forth.

Khayr ed-Din Pasha -Tunsi and Ahmad ibn Khalid al-Nasiri, as examples, are considered two of many social reformers in the Arab World who have led many reform experiences.

They have presented several suggestions and solutions concerning the critical situation during the nineteenth century.

These reformist attempts reflect citizens' awareness of the national cause even most of them were, quite, unsuccessful.

Undoubtedly, any study requires a scientific method to be followed by researchers during the analysis in order to reach a predetermined objective abiding by specific criteria.

In accordance with the nature of the presented research, which is a comparative historical study, it has been chosen to work with comparative and descriptive approach.

The former is employed to analyze this subject from different perspectives and the latter is employed to collect historical data related to the above-mentioned reformers, in a way that facilitate their analysis and classification.
