In the last two decades, most major countries have been moving to use intensive unilateral sanctions outside the United Nations against some countries and bodies with a view to putting pressure on them to force them to change their behavior in a particular area.

The United States of America is one of the countries most employed by the sanctions weapon as an alternative to armed military intervention outside the United Nations, especially after it has taken control of the international community and the United Nations, mostly targeting political, economic and social areas.
