If we accept that international law prohibits owning what it prevents its use, then how do we explain the convention of the treaty on the prohibition of the use, production or stockpiling of bacteriological weapons in 1972 and the convention on the prohibition of the development, manufacture, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons and on their destruction in 1993 despite the fact that the Geneva protocol of 1925 had previously prohibited the use of this type of weapon ? accordingly, this research aims to show the stages of prohibiting the rules of international law for the possession and use of weapons of mass destruction.

this is because international conventions had initially prohibited the use of chemical and biological weapons, but then it prevented their possession.

as for nuclear weapons, the beginning was by preventing their possession, and a ban on their use was not reached until recently after the 1997 treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons entered into force in January 2021.
