Abstract EN

The concept of civil society has become associated with that of the modern state, and local development is no longer a monopoly of the state alone, but civil society institutions have become a key factor in achieving this development within the framework of what is known as participatory democracy.

through this study, we note that the status of civil society in light of the last constitutional amendment of the year 2020, its importance has increased through the constitutional guarantees surrounding it.

in addition to the establishment of the national observatory for civil society with the aim of promoting the role of civil society institutions and bodies in Algeria.

however, this progress will remain theoretical and subject to the nature of the typical relationship between civil society and the political system due to lack of realization of conditions and mechanisms of activating the role of civil society in achieving local development in Algeria.
